Lutino Cockatiel Parrots Pair, Yellow & White Color (M Size)

Characteristics:

The lutino cockatiel is one of the most popular color mutations. Characterized by white to bright-yellow feathers, orange cheek patches, and distinctive red eyes, the mutation is caused by a sex-linked recessive gene that inhibits the production of melanin.

Characteristics and Health:
Lutinos share the same friendly, affectionate, and relatively quiet temperament as standard cockatiels, making them fantastic companions. However, they are prone to a few specific traits:
- Vision & "Night Frights": The lack of dark pigment often results in mild vision impairment, which can lead to clumsiness and a higher frequency of panicked "night frights".
- Lutino Bald Spot: Due to genetic factors, many lutinos have a small bald patch just behind their crest, which is perfectly normal.

Sexing Lutinos:
Unlike the wild-type grey cockatiels, you cannot simply look at the tail or cheek colors to determine a lutino's sex. Instead, you have to rely on behavioral cues:
- Males tend to have more melodious, complex whistles and will often strut or tap their beaks on objects.
- Females generally have monotonous, single-note chirps, and their crests and facial markings may be slightly duller.
